Dear Editor,
Frequently in the recent past we were forced to look at photos in the press of the unkempt condition of the Le Repentir Cemetery in Georgetown with captions implying that ‘the authorities’ were failing to discharge their responsibilities to the public.
The core issue often boils down to a lack of finance to repeat the regular de-bushing of expansive grounds and cleaning of the areas around the many graves, tombs and tombstones.
I wish to repeat the suggestion that cremation of the dead should be more seriously considered as an alternative to burying, which will always require expanding burial grounds and repeated bush
clearing with all the expenses associated with the latter.
I also wish to take this opportunity to invite the public to visit the cremation site within the Blairmont Memorial Garden which is contiguous to the burial grounds at Blairmont Estate and which poignantly presents interesting contrasts in beauty, serenity and cost-effectiveness.
Yours faithfully,
Nowrang Persaud
