Family of shot Turning Point owner living in fear

Family members of Collin McEwan are fearful for their lives as police continue investigations into his shooting on Friday night.

Stabroek News understands that the Turning Point Bar owner is currently in stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and was able to speak yesterday after suffering multiple shots about his body.

This newspaper was told that as a result of the near fatal shooting at the bar, located in South Ruimveldt, family members have boosted security. A neighbour told Stabroek News that McEwan’s family has been very quiet and disengaged out of fear that the shooting may have been retaliatory in nature.

Stabroek News was made to understand that McEwan was very vocal in a recent interview with Capitol News discrediting public perception that his bar is a hotbed for criminal activity.

McEwan had told the news entity that crimes do occur in the vicinity, but denied that it had anything to do with his business and called for better policing as it relates to gang behaviour.

Meanwhile, a family member of McEwan told Stabroek News that they would prefer to allow the police to continue on with investigations and did not wish to comment on any matters that may be detrimental to the police probe.

McEwan was shot when three men attacked him. An eyewitness said that he was next to McEwan when the men attacked. The men charged at McEwan and opened fire at him, the man said.

He added that the bandits may not have been aware that the businessman was armed with a licensed firearm and he fired at his attackers while retreating. The businessman was reportedly in the company of friends playing dominoes when the gunmen struck.
