Clifton Gibson, one of the three men accused of murdering Rubis accountant Jason Cort, yesterday pleaded not guilty to a charge that he escaped from custody.
The charge against Gibson states that on June 29th, at Lamaha and Parade streets, while he was in lawful custody being escorted to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), he escaped from the police.
The charge was initially read to him last month but it was only decided at the second hearing yesterday to have it dealt with summarily, thereby requiring Gibson to enter a plea.
Gibson was charged along with Stancy Rodney, and Linton Eastman, 23, with the murder of Cort on June 17th, at Meadow Brook Gardens, pursuant to a robbery. Cort, 27, was shot to the chest just after he had returned home. His gold chain, a bracelet worth $500,000, his licensed firearm, an Xbox gaming console and his smartphone were stolen in the robbery.
Gibson’s next hearing has been fixed for August 24th at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court Three.
