Dear Editor,
I’ve been very critical of badly constructed roads and drains in Lindentown. To name a few, the Blue Berry Hill Wismar hospital road which was constructed in the year 2011 is already broken up, and all roads in the Block #22 area also broken up and soakaways and drains are filled with sand to the point taxi drivers refuse to take passengers into that area.
The construction of the drain between Figgie’s Variety Shop and Winifred Gaskin Highway or One Mile road is a marvel from the Captain Marvel Comic book many of us read in our youth. That particular drain construction has proven our engineers and contractors are out of touch with reality. I’m not a surveyor, but I’m knowledgeable enough to understand when something is not done properly. I’m puzzled that with so many turns in and out on that drain between Figgie’s Variety Shop which is situated at the top of a rise and a soakaway which is always filled with sand at the bottom at the entrance to the Bayroc playfield, was done in that manner.
Another ‘Marvel’ is the elevated concrete drain on stakes which looks like a overhead flyover. It begins from a filled soakaway and rises to a height of about 2 feet continuously for about 75 yards. It is intended to permit the flow of water to enter the One Mile road drain, which is impossible. I suggested long before the construction of the road and drain, that both be raised to the level where water will flow freely instead of having a waste-of-time flyover drain and a useless culvert. The newly built bridge at the entrance of Bayroc Playfield is also broken up.
I wish that when the President and his touring team visit Lindentown they have a first-hand look at some improperly executed projects and make their comments publicly, because it seems our councillors and works Inspectors aren’t doing their duty for their pay.
Readers should remember, we are all in this thing together.
Yours faithfully,
B Winslow Parris
