Barbados brush aside South Windwards for second win

COUVA, Trinidad, CMC – Barbados made light work of South Windwards as they strolled to their second win of the Regional Women’s Super50 at the National Cricket Centre here yesterday.

Opting to bat first, Barbados reached a challenging 212 for eight off their 50 overs, with Kyshona Knight leading with 42, Kycia Knight stroking 36 and Shakera Selman getting 25 not out and captain Shaquana Quintyne, 25.

Off-spinner Cordell Jack picked up two for 35 while seamer Stacy-Ann Adams (2-39) and Shavorne Clarke (2-47) also finished with two wickets apiece.

South Windwards then struggled in their turn at the crease, managing to muster a mere 110 for nine off their 50 overs with opener Jack finishing on 29 not out.

She retired hurt at 15 for one in the 15th over before later resuming her innings. Afy Fletcher with 15 and Juliana Nero, 13, were the only other batsmen in double figures.

Seamer Shakera Selman claimed three for 16 while Keilah Elliot finished with two for 25.

Earlier, Barbados dominated with the bat though no player managed to make it past 50.

Kycia Knight, who faced 58 balls and struck four fours, put on 56 for the first wicket with West Indies teammate Hayley Matthews who scored 22 from 31 balls with two fours.

When both were dismissed to leave Barbados on 86 for two in the 19th over, Kyshona Knight and Deandra Dottin (11) added a further 41 for the third wicket.

Kyshona, also a Windies women’s player, hit three fours off 62 balls.

Both perished in successive deliveries to Adams with the score on 127 but yet again, Barbados found a partnership as Quintyne and Aaliyah Alleyne (10) added 34 for the next wicket to keep the innings alive.
