A year after Marvin Cumbermack, 29, was killed during a robbery, members of his family still hope for justice although they have seen no progress with the matter.
The police have not made any arrests while the man’s family believes that the killing of the former prison officer was done by someone who knew him well.
Cumbermack, of 190 North East La Penitence, was shot several times as he made his way home on a motorbike from the Guyana Water Incorporated’s Sophia Water Treatment Plant on August 11th, 2014.
This newspaper had initially reported that around 9pm on August 11, last year, Cumbermack left work at GWI and was making his way to his girlfriend’s Sophia home when he was intercepted by a man on a bicycle. The man demanded that he surrender his motorcycle CF1816. However, Cumbermack put up a fight and was subsequently shot around five times.
To date, Cumbermack’s family still recalls the night of the incident.
Claire Carrington, the mother of the dead man told Stabroek News that she visited the Kitty Police Station continuously last year and was told on the last occasion that the police are following all leads provided to them and they will contact her as soon as any arrest was made. To date, the dissatisfied woman said that she has never received a single call or word about the matter, which makes her feel that she won’t get justice for her son. However, despite the lapse in the case the woman said she will ensure her son’s killer/s face the full consequences for the murder.
“He was like my own son. He was so nice, I never expect someone to do something like this to Marvin and that too just for a motorcycle,” added the mother of Cumbermack’s girlfriend.
