A fisherman has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after being found guilty of threatening and assaulting his neighbour.
Shameer Sankar, of Grove, East Bank Demarara, was sentenced by Magistrate Leron Daly at the conclusion of his trial at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
The prosecution’s case was that Sankar committed the crimes on his neighbour, Faneeza Peters, on July 14th, 2015.
The prosecutor said although they were not on speaking terms, Sankar had returned home intoxicated and started spewing indecent words towards Peters. Peters went into the yard to confront the man, who then dealt her several punches and kicks about her body.
After considering the testimony of two witnesses, the magistrate found Sankar guilty and sentenced him to 18 months in prison.
