A repeat offender was on Monday fined $50,000 after admitting he stole a quantity of household articles from an Albouystown home.
According to the charge, on August 2nd, Anil Basil stole a Playstation, a pot set, a perfume set and a bottle of shampoo, worth a total of $110,000, from Odessa Williams.
Basil, a 40-year-old fisherman pleaded guilty to the charge.
Basil, however, indicated to the court that the complainant did not want to proceed with the matter against him. He added that the two parties have agreed that he would work to compensate Williams for the stolen articles.
Seeking to verify whether the claims made by the accused were true, Magistrate Ann McLennan questioned Williams.
“Your worship, I know he do me wrong but I don’t want to punish him by sending him to jail. I am contented that he admitted to taking the things when I asked him about it,” the woman said, in response.
As a result, the magistrate fined Basil $50,000 with an alternative of two months in jail if he is unable to pay the fine.
Basil was previously fined for a similar crime.
