Diamond brothers placed on bond over assault

Two brothers who admitted to assaulting each other, were yesterday reprimanded by Magistrate Ann McLennan, and placed on a 12-month bond to keep the peace.

Andre Blackman, 41, and Mark Blackman, 39, of 1411 Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, were each charged with unlawfully assaulting the other yesterday at their place of residence.

Both men pleaded guilty to the charge.

According to prosecutor Deniro Jones, the two men were at home when an argument ensued surrounding the abuse of alcohol. The police were called to the scene and the brothers were arrested and later charged.

Mark Blackman, a part-time employee at the Ministry of Education, told the court that his brother, Andre, had a habit of coming home drunk and tormenting the household. On the day in question, Andre’s intoxicated state led to an altercation between the two brothers, landing them in prison.

Magistrate McLennan cautioned the men and advised them that they needed to learn to live peacefully together. The case was dismissed and the two were placed on a 12-month bond. In the event that the brothers breach the bond they will have to spend four weeks in prison.
