Four months after three men first appeared in court, the preliminary inquiry into the murder of Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) engineer, Trevor Abrams is still to begin as the police have not yet completed their file.
Rayon Paddy, Orin Arthur and Steve Prescott appeared in court on April 13, 2015 charged with the murder of Abrams, who was gunned down along the Little Diamond Public Road, on February 27 of this year.
The murder of Abrams, 32, of Lot 131 Samantha’s Point, Grove Housing Scheme, was suspected to be a hit that was linked to his work.
The three men made a court appearance on Thursday last before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 2 where they were given yesterday’s date for the commencement of the preliminary inquiry. However, according to Police Prosecutor Neville Jeffers, the continuing delay is a result of the incomplete file and also outstanding results of the ballistic test. The court had heard that by yesterday these two elements would have been completed and made available.
This did not happen and Jeffers found himself asking for the matter to be adjourned to another date.
The men are expected to make their next court appearance before Magistrate Judy Latchman on August 19 for report and fixtures.
The court had previously heard that the prosecution has a total of about 20 witnesses to testify.
