Scotiabank on Tuesday continued their investment towards the development of Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) youths with another cash injection into the club’s ongoing summer camp.
The monetary donation was made on behalf of the bank’s Manager Brian Hackett whose brainchild it was. The relationship between DCC and Scotia is years old and Hackett cited the venture as one to ensure the club continues to produce national youth players who will one day represent the West Indies.
DCC bowled off their camp on Monday with roughly 70 youths from across the city who were taught the fundamentals of the sport by national veteran coach and player Garvin Nedd and ex-Guyana and West Indies batsman Travis Dowlin.
“This venture today is really an extension of the first meeting where it was to support the youths with gears or those going overseas. So we decided to contribute financially to make sure these kids could have a really good camp”, said Hackett.
Hackett said that the bank will continue to work along with the club in the days to come on various projects involving the youths, not only in cricket but rugby and other sports. Club President Alfred Mentore said he was thankful for the assistance from Scotia over the past years.
He pointed out that the next initiative will see representatives of the bank visiting DCC and having a session with the youngsters about various ways and means of managing and saving money from a young age.
Present at the brief function were DCC and Guyana players: Trevon Griffith and his more junior mates in Guyana Under-15 Captain Ashmead Nedd, National U-15 batsman Sachin Singh and Romeo Deonarain. Scotiabank’s Relationship Officer Karen Harris and Business Manager Richard Damon were also present.
