Alpha United Head Coach Wayne Dover said while he anticipates a very competitive Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League, the expectation and objective for his charges is to emerge successful at conclusion of the tournament.
The inaugural GFF Elite League is expected to commence during the month of September and will consist of eighth teams. The competing clubs are Alpha United, Bakewell Slingerz, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Pele FC, Georgetown Football Club (GFC), Monedderlust FC, Buxton United and Fruta Conquerors.
In an interview with Stabroek Sports, Dover declared “We always have our expectation in being successful at the end of the season and we are not going to change from that because we will work both players and staff as hard as we could to get the desired result at the end of the season”.
Dover, who holds the portfolio of Golden Jaguars Assistant Coach further noted “We know it will be a long hard season because every team is strengthening and they will be no pushovers. I anticipate a fierce and competitive season and the team that manages the season the best will be triumphant”.
Questioned about the status of the team’s preparation, Dover said “For us we only started last week Thursday. We were basically waiting on a definitive date and wanted to be given assurances when it will start. Now that we have a clear indication that it will be in September, we have started our preparation to fit in with the six weeks period that is needed for pre-season training”.
According to Dover “We did not want to be caught starting too early and then have to start back so we waited for that information. The numbers at the training sessions are good which is always important. The players are working very hard and our aim is to ensure we get them as fit as possible so that they can endure the rigour of the season”.
“We started to do our tactical sessions and we will tie in a few practice games before the season starts to get the matchup rhythm and get them some game time”, he added.
Asked about the major transfers that the club would have recruited, he said “I don’t want to disclose the new players but I am very excited about the few that came into the club and I am very excited to be working with them. I hope they have a successful and triumphant season at the end”.
According to Dover “A few persons left but all over the world that happens. FIFA gave us this period for players to decide whether they want to go or stay for many different reasons”.
He further said “It has always been utilized to the fullest by players because during every transfer window there is movement and we have to learn to live with that situation at present. If FIFA could recognize that, we as the people involved need to embrace it. Those that would have left we wish them a bright future and success in their endeavours”.
