The Petra Organization and Banks DIH Limited partnered to launch the inaugural GT Beer Futsal Tournament yesterday at the Conference Room at Thirst Park, Banks DIH.
The event which will officially commence on Tuesday August 18th at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, will feature 16 teams competing in an initial group stage format with four teams per group. Upon the completion of the group round, the top two finishers in each group will progress to the knockout round.
The competing teams are Broad Street, Sophia, North Ruimveldt, West Back Road, Bent Street, Sparta Boss, Globe Yard, Alexander Village, Ballerz, Queen Street Tigerbay, West Front Road, Albouystown, Festival City, Showstoppers, Agricola and Beterverwagting (BV).
Group-A will comprise Agricola, Queen Street Tigerbay, Leopold Street and Kitty Weavers while Group-B will consist of Albouystown, Sparta Boss, Alexander Village and Globe Yard. Group-C will comprise West Front Road, Show Stoppers, Sophia and Broad Street while Group-D will feature the likes of Bent Street, North Ruimveldt, West Back Road and BV.
The winner of the tournament will collect $500,000 and the championship trophy while the second, third and fourth place finishers will collect $250,000, $125,000 and $75,000 and the correspondingly accolade.
Tournament Coordinator Troy Mendonca during an invited comment said “Petra is once again pleased to collaborate with Banks to bring another episode of football among the neighbourhood wards”.
According to Mendonca “This relationship stems over nine years and the wards have demonstrated camaraderie among and between themselves and we are proud to bring another edition of street football. Once again the Petra Organization thanks Banks DIH for collaborating with us in this next venture”.
Speaking on behalf of Banks DIH, Brand Manager of Beers Brian Cho-Hen said “Banks is indeed happy to be associated with sponsorship of the tournament, declaring “This is yet another demonstration of the Banks DIH and GT Beers’ commitment to the sports in our beautiful country Guyana”.
