Dynamic Airways LLC, which runs a service between Guyana and New York, has been summoned to bankruptcy court over US$130,827 in alleged debt to three hotels.
The debt ostensibly relates to rooms that the airline has used to accommodate passengers.
According to court documents seen by Stabroek News, a petition under title 11 of the United States Code was filed against Dynamic on August 13th, 2015 in the United States Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of New York requesting an order for relief.
Dynamic has 21 days to answer the petition.
The request for relief was field by the three hotels on July 28, 2015.
Five Towns Motor Inn, Inc of 655 Rockaway Turnpike, Lawrence, NY is claiming US$78,633; Sunrise One, LLC, The Rockville Centre Inn of 1 Sunrise Highway, Lynbrook, NY is claiming US$3,018 and Manhattan Guam, Inc, Royal Orchid Guam Hotel in Guam is claiming US$49,175.
In response to the reports of the lawsuit, local representative of the airline Gerry Gouveia last evening emphasised that Dynamic Airways was not heading to bankruptcy and that its interest in Guyana remains long-term.
“Dynamic’s entrance into the Guyanese Market continues to be a rewarding one, giving Guyanese non-stop flights from Georgetown to New York at an affordable cost. We recognise its period of service like any other airline came with challenges; however, those challenges were met with the determination to deliver superior service to the Guyanese people,” he said in a statement.
He added that the proceedings initiated by the hotels would not hinder Dynamic’s service in Guyana.
