Whenever the calendar flips to September, one of the ways the Massy Group of Companies celebrates its anniversary is the hosting of a 10km run and Fitness Walk.
This year will be no different.
Yesterday, Chairman of the conglomerate, Deo Persaud along with president of the Athletic Association of Guyana, Aubrey Hutson revealed that the event will run off on September 6.
This along with other details of the sixth edition of the annual fixture were unveiled during the official launch at the company’s Ruimveldt Head Office.
According to Hutson, the race will commence at 6am at Vreed-en-Hoop and end at the head office.
Athletes are asked to assemble at the head office one hour prior to the start of the event.
Besides trophies and hampers, lucrative cash incentives will be up for grabs. In the open category, the first male and female to the tape will pocket $75,000 each. The winning male and female junior athletes (age 16-19) will receive a $50,000 training grant voucher.
A smiling Hutson then said that “we will ensure that our Masters for their participation, we will reward them. We want to ensure that all of them take home something.”
The Massy 10km event is the first in a series of 10K races which culminates in November, and the AAG president revealed to the athletes in attendance that “it’s the perfect training ground and measuring stick” and that the coordinators “will provide the right atmosphere for you athletes.”
Meanwhile, Persaud congratulated Hutson and the AAG for their successful hosting of the race for the past five years. He also mentioned that “We will like the partnership to continue once the community continues to benefit, so let’s continue with the partnership.”
These sentiments were echoed by Hutson who also encouraged the athletes to register as soon as possible.
