GDF shuts down Ayanganna shooting range

The shooting range at the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Camp Ayanganna base was shut down after several bullets pierced the walls and damaged a car several hundred feet away at Stanley Place, Kitty.

“We are working with the guy and yes there was some damage to his car. The range has been shut down as we have to do some corrective works to it,” Chief-of-Staff Brigadier Mark Phillips told Stabroek News yesterday. He said the matter is under investigation and the results of the investigation will see corrective measures implemented to prevent a recurrence.

“We have spoken to the guy and we will repair his vehicle,” Phillips said, while noting that the GDF wanted to apologise to the citizens and allaying fears that may have arisen due to the incident.

“I don’t have any fear or anything. I just thank god that no one was injured ’cause kids does play right around the area. It was an accident and I ain’t blaming anyone,” a Kitty resident said yesterday.

When Stabroek News tried to speak with the owner of the car yesterday, he refused. “You can see it right there, I don’t have anything to say,” he said.
