Former President Bharrat Jagdeo arrived in Parliament this afternoon with PPP/C MPs to take up their 32 seats in parliament.
Jagdeo is expected to be named leader of the opposition.
It is the party’s first attendance at the 11th parliament and in time for the opening of the budget 2015 debate.
As the sitting got underway, PPP/C MP Gail Teixeira informed the Speaker, Dr Barton Scotland that the party had no nominees for Deputy Speaker. This position is usually held by the opposition. In the 10th parliament, the PPP/C had complained that the then opposition had monopolised both the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
