Parika Defenders, Regal Masters and Floodlights recorded victories in this weekend’s Petama Enterprise & Motor Trend-sponsored softball tournament.
Over at the Demerara Cricket Club ground (DCC), Parika Defenders beat Park Rangers by 6 wickets in the Masters division, after the latter scored 135 all out off 19.2 overs despite top knocks from Mohamed Rafeek, 44, and Danny Mohanram 42.
D.Canan (2-13), A Ali (2-28) were the primary wicket takers for the Defenders who cruised to 136 for 5 off 18.2 overs and M Soffe led the way with 56 and M Bacchus 38. Bowling for Park Rangers, Hanoman Singh grabbed 2-26.
The second match saw Floodlights whipping Savage Masters by 21 runs after racking up an imposing 167-6 off 20 overs, compliments of veteran batsmen Yunis Yusuf, 39, Wayne Jones, 32 not out, and Imtiaz Mohamed, 28. Wallack Joseph made inroads with 2-24.
In reply, Savage made 146-7 off 20 overs with S. Samaroo, 31 and Nadir Baksh, 28 not out, being the significant scorers. The bowling was led by Mohamed who returned with figures of 3-27 and was supported by Rabindra Singh 2-20.
In the third match, Regal Masters defeated Fisherman XI by 8 wickets after the fisherman were restricted to 111-5 off 20 overs.
R Mohan 29, Ramo Malone 19 and David Harper 17, were the top scorers. Falim Mohamed bagged 2-28 for Regal who scored 115-2 off 11.4 overs after a top innings from Rudolph Baker who struck 71 and Mahendra Hardyal 18.
