Ahead of the upcoming Professional Cricket League (PCL) Four Day season, Ryan Hinds, the Barbadian all-rounder is expected to face a one-year ban for breaching his contract to represent the defending Four Day champions, Guyana Jaguars.
Reliable sources from the local franchise, Cricket Guyana Inc. (CGI) told Stabroek Sports, the former West Indies player stated he had other commitments, thus resulting in his decision to opt out of his contract with the Guyana Jags ahead on the 2015/16 season.
Hinds, along with fellow Barbadian Javon Searles were selected as Guyana’s two foreign players in keeping with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) regulation which stipulated that regional territories acquire a maximum of two overseas players. Both Hinds and Searles, who arrived in Guyana a few days ago and immediately joined the Jags ongoing weekly pre-season training camp, were selected in Guyana’s 15-man squad at the 2015 West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) professional player draft a few months ago in Jamaica.
It is still unclear the exact reason given by the 34-year-old ex-Test batsman, but according to the information received by the CGI source, it is likely that the Jaguars will indeed have to pursue their title defence without the services of Hinds.
This move now means that Hinds will face the repercussions of his decision from the governing body, the WICB, who may possibly institute a year-long ban as a result of the breach of terms in the professional contract. Nevertheless, the Guyana Jaguars will not be at a loss or forced to replace Hinds because they were allotted an extra player due to miscommunication between the local franchise and the WICB which occurred at the draft.
Instead of 15, the Jags had 16 players because of a special obligation awarded by the WICB. Opener Kandasammy Surujnarine was selected as Guyana’s 16th player and ever since he continued his training with the national side.
