The family of a retired Mackenzie Primary School teacher is seeking the public’s assistance to raise funds for her to undergo an emergency heart surgery.
Elma Robertson, 69, has been a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation since last Saturday after her son brought her from her hometown of Linden to seek treatment for what was diagnosed as a heart attack.
The woman’s son, Roger Robertson, told Stabroek News that her doctor explained that his mother’s heart is unable to pump blood efficiently to other parts of her body following the heart attack. As a result, she requires the insertion of a pacemaker to allow a more
efficient blood flow around the body, her son explained.
He noted that the diagnosis came as a surprise to the family as he had never known his mother to have any existing heart conditions.
Robertson further explained that the needed surgery is being offered at the Caribbean Heart Institute (CHI) at a cost of $1,400,000. This cost is said to cover both the surgery as well as accommodation.
Persons interested in assisting the family can make donations to the Citizens Bank account (218776297) or by contacting Roger Robertson on 592-691- 8714 or 442-3572.
