Four months after Teleperformance anticipated its grand opening to the Guyanese public, the company is not saying when the local branch of the international call centre will actually be fully up and running.
In an interview in April, the vice-president of operations in Guyana Dr Dale Dan had expressed her hopes of having the call centre up and running by the early part of May. She had described the call centre, located at Camp and Robb streets, as “a beacon of transformation in Guyana,” with the company aiming to provide 1,500 jobs to locals.
It was explained that the company hoped to have 1,500 persons working at the location by August 1st, with an additional 900 being added to the team at the end of December this year.
However, when Stabroek News sought to ascertain the status of the planned opening, a company spokesperson noted that a new date has not been set for the official opening. She said that the moment the company has the information, she will gladly inform the media.
Meanwhile, job vacancies have been published urging suitable candidates to send in applications to fill the position of “Spanish personnel” at the company. Interested persons are required to be fluent in English with bilingual competence in either Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese or French.
Speaking to Stabroek News in April, Dan had noted that the company would be offering outsourcing services to 38 clients, including several large Fortune 500 companies, airlines, Comcast and retail giants, such as Walmart.
Additionally, Dan had expressed hopes of one day being able to open other branches of the company in Berbice and Essequibo once the capacity at the Georgetown location is reached. She asserted that Guyana has the potential to house the company’s regional headquarters.
The six-storey call centre building, which occupies 50,000 square feet at the corner of Robb and Camp streets, has the capacity to hold approximately 2,400 persons.
