The inaugural RDE Vibes and Sparta Boss ‘King of the Streets’ Football Tournament will kick off today at the National Cultural Centre Tarmac on Mandela Avenue with eighth fixtures.
The event which will be coordinated by Eson Pyle, will feature 32 teams from various parts of the country competing for over $700,000 in cash and prizes over a group format. Upon the completion of the group stage, the top two teams will advance to the knockout round.
The tourney which is expected to last for eight days, will also be held at the Pouderoyen Tarmac in the West Demerara region. The other dates for the event are August 22nd, 25th and 26th and September 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th.
In the opening match, Alberttown will oppose Melanie at 19:00hrs while Jetty Gunners will lock horns with Admiral United in the second match at 19:30hrs. Globe Yard will then oppose Samaroo Dam from 20:00hrs while Broad Street will face off with Festival City from 20:30hrs.
At 21:00hrs, Alexander Village will tackle North East La Penitence while Albouystown will oppose World Boss from 21:30hrs. The seventh fixture will see Showstoppers facing off with West Front Road-Gold is Money at 22:00hrs while Leopold Street will engage Agricola at 22:30hrs.
In terms of the group alignment, Group-A will feature Showstopper, Alberttown, Melanie and West Front Road-Gold is Money while group-B will consist of Globe Yard, Alexander Village, North East La Penitence and Samaroo Dam.
In group-C, Broad Street, Jetty Gunners, Admiral United and Festival City will do battle while group-D will feature the likes of Albouystown, Leopold Street, Agricola and World Boss.
On the other hand, group-E comprises of Brothers United, Back Circle, Sophia and Patentia Street Ballers while Tigerbay, East Ruimveldt, Den Amstel and West Ruimveldt will make up group-F.
Similarly group-G will be headed by Sparta Boss and will also feature Cross Street, Plaisance and Raiders while North Ruimveldt, Island All-Stars, West Side Ballers and Beterverwagting (BV) will lock horns in group-H.
The winner of the tournament will walk away with $400,000 and the championship trophy while the second, third and fourth-place sides will receive $150,000, $80,000 and $20,000 correspondingly.
