Private sector discusses police force with US team

The Private Sector Commission (PSC) met with a team from the United States Department of Justice (DoJ) on Friday, August 14, 2015 for a discussion on a two-week professional course it is running for the Guyana Police Force and related matters.

The PSC in a release yesterday said that it took the opportunity to address concerns such as the recent spike in crime, the inability of the Force to investigate ‘white collar’ crimes, the reviving of an effective 911 system and the implementation of an incentive scheme for officers.

The DoJ team, the release said, noted that successful implementation of their plans would result in a more professional Guyana Police Force and the development of a Standard Operating Manual that would guide the activities of the Force.

The PSC welcomed the programme and called on the Government and the Guyana Police Force to show full support to the team.

Training is being done by the DoJ for the police’s international probe unit, the Office of Professional Responsibility.
