With an action packed start highlighting the opening night, the inaugural GT Beer Futsal Championship will continue tonight at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Homestretch Avenue with four fixtures.
In the opening fixture of the night, West Demerara giant Showstoppers will lock horns with Sophia from 19:00hrs.
The second matchup will then pit East Coast of Demerara unit Beterverwagting (BV) against Bent Street from 19:45hrs.
The third fixture will then pit Queen Street Tigerbay against Festival City at 21:00hrs while the final matchup of the evening will witness heavyweights West Front Road facing off with Broad Street from 21:45hrs.
The event will then continue on Monday at the same venue with another four slated fixtures. In the opening fixture at 19:00hrs, Queen Street Tigerbay will oppose Kitty Weavers while Bent Street will lock horns with Beterverwagting (BV) in the second fixture from 19:45hrs.
In the third showdown, Sparta Boss will lock horns with Globe Yard from 21:00hrs while Agricola and Festival City will do battle in the final fixture from 21:45hrs.
The event which was officially launched on August 13th, will feature 16 teams competing in an initial group stage format with four teams being divided into as many groups.
Upon the completion of the group round, the top two finishers in each group will progress to the knockout round.
Group-A will comprise of Agricola, Queen Street Tigerbay, Leopold Street and Kitty Weavers while group-B will consist of Albouystown, Sparta Boss, Alexander Village and Globe Yard.
Group-C will comprise West Front Road, Show Stoppers, Sophia and Broad Street while group-D will feature the likes of Bent Street, North Ruimveldt, West Back Road and BV.
The winner of the tournament will collect $500,000 and the championship trophy while the second, third and fourth place finishers will collect $250,000, $125,000 and $75,000 and the corresponding accolade.
