The police file on the charge against Regan Rodrigues, the man accused of murdering political activist Courtney Crum-Ewing, is still not completed, police prosecutor Neville Jeffers yesterday reported.
As a result, Rodrigues, called ‘Grey Boy,’ was yesterday further remanded by Georgetown magistrate Ann McLennan.
Rodrigues, 37, was charged on August 7th with the capital offence. He was not required to plea to the charge, which stated that on March 10th, 2015, at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, he murdered Crum-Ewing.
During yesterday proceedings, Jeffers informed the magistrate that the case file is still incomplete and he asked for another date convenient to the court. As a result, the matter was adjourned to September 11th.
While being escorted out of the courtroom, Rodrigues nodded his head and said, “Look how this country turn boy.” While in the prisoner holding area, awaiting transport back to prison, Rodrigues was heard loudly saying that he was innocent. “Me ain’t kill no body boy! Why would I kill that man on my son birthday?” he shouted.
Crum-Ewing, 40, was shot dead as he was urging residents to vote against the incumbent PPP/C at the May 11th elections. He was shot five times, including three times to the head. For weeks prior to his death, Crum-Ewing had held one man protest outside the office of the then Attorney-General to press for his resignation over statements he made during a telephone conversation with a Kaieteur News reporter that was made public.
Police linked Rodrigues to the crime through ballistic tests done on an illegal .32-calibre gun that was found at his Riverview, Ruimveldt home and which was matched to the murder. Rodrigues was earlier charged with the possession of the weapon.
