Dear Editor,
It is not listed in the Table of Contents, but if you have the will you can find a relatively short list of statutory utilities, two of which seem to have been ignored in all the years of scrutiny and budget debates. One is the Guyana Printers Ltd, the former B G Lithographic Ltd, situated very visibly in La Penitence next to the Punt Trench.
This organisation has a remarkable story of survival, with just about 100 employees innovating ways and means to be self-sustaining in the face of consistent indifference, and even pressure, from the relevant authorities over the past two decades. There is the example of contracts being redirected by the latter, even to overseas firms.
They are to be congratulated for having survived since nationalisation. More importantly, they need support particularly by those former opposition players who simply happened to have overlooked their existence. For this organisation it is truly time for change.
Hopefully their principals can expect to hear from the Minister of Information, the Prime Minister, in due course. It would be an exceptional experience for these gallant souls. The Minister of Education, Sport and Culture can legitimately intervene.
Yours faithfully,
E B John
