The Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) today announced interim appointments of a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and a DCEO following the removal of CEO Bharat Dindyal.
Colin Welch Deputy Chief Executive Officer-Technical has been designated interim Chief Executive Officer.
- Renford Homer Senior Divisional Director – Commercial Services and Information Technology has been designated interim Deputy Chief Executive Officer.
A release from GPL said that the interim appointments will continue until the new Board of Directors is installed. Thereafter, advertisements to fill existing vacancies on GPL’s Executive Management Structure will be issued.
The Company pledges its support and commitment to the new appointees as we work collectively to execute the mandates of GPL.
It was a public feud between Dindyal and Welch that resulted in Dindyal being severed from GPL. Welch had sought twice to have two GPL officials removed from GPL’s premises and he had enlisted the police to accomplish this. The officials in question appealed to Dindyal and he intervened on both occasions to prevent Welch from accomplishing the task. It was during one of these incidents that there was a rowdy confrontation between the two that ended up on social media. Dindyal was heard using profanity and referring to the Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson in a disparaging manner.
