A speeding car with a sick passenger crashed into another yesterday after the driver ignored the traffic lights at the Conversation Tree junction.
According to eyewitnesses, the car with the sick passenger was travelling west on the East Coast Highway at a fast rate and ignored the amber signal on the traffic light and collided with a vehicle that was turning onto Conversation Tree road.
The force of the collision sent the two cars in opposite directions. The one that was heading west on the highway swerved left into the traffic light while the one that was hit crashed into the highway divider.
According to the driver of the vehicle that crashed into the traffic lights, he was transporting a sick passenger to the hospital and had his hazard lights on. He admitted that he was speeding along the road as he was in a hurry but said that he did not see the other car turning.
The driver of the car that was hit explained to Stabroek News that he had the right of way and did not see the car speeding along the highway since other cars had stopped at the stoplight.
While the cars were badly damaged, both drivers and occupants of the vehicles escaped unscathed. The sick patient was rushed to the hospital.
