A motorcyclist said that he sustained three fractured ribs after a Tundra crashed into him on July 6 but the police have not followed up on the matter and he saw the driver hand over money to the cops at the scene.
Godfrey Stewart of Lot 72, East La Penitence said that he was riding on Sheriff Street when the Tundra came across the street and crashed into him. Stewart told Stabroek News that policemen on a motorcycle were in close proximity and came to render assistance. He said that the driver of the Tundra, whom he named and who lives in Strathspey, East Coast Demerara, was seen handing over a quantity of cash to the police at the scene.
Stewart related that after the cops collected the money, they demanded that he board another police vehicle which had arrived and which subsequently transported him to the Georgetown Public Hospital. The man said that when he visited the police station to give a statement and enquired about the driver, he was told that the driver was not answering his phone.
The injured man recalled that he made several visits to the Kitty Police Station along with a relative after nothing was forthcoming in relation to the matter. When the relative requested a look at the statements which were collected by the police, Stewart said that they were told that the investigating rank was transferred to the Brickdam Police Station. However, after a call was made to the Brickdam police Station, it was related that the investigating rank was on leave.
Since he is unable to work, Stewart said that he needs justice or at least some form of compensation.
