Shanzin Khan, the businessman who was knocked off his motorbike in the city on Saturday, is still battling for his life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
Khan, 47, of Lot 181 Lusignan Public Road, East Coast Demerara, and the owner of the Discount Palace, sustained a serious brain injury in the accident.
His wife, Annette Khan, had told Stabroek News that the accident occurred just after midday on Saturday, when her husband was struck by a car while riding his motorbike at the corner of Cummings and Lamaha streets, in Georgetown.
She had said her husband left home on a CBR motorcycle to transact business in Georgetown and it was while he was on his way that the driver of a car hit the bike. Khan was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the hospital by the driver.
A CT scan confirmed that Khan sustained head injuries, including to his brain. Up to late yesterday afternoon his condition remained critical. He was due for another CT scan since the relatives said they were informed that Khan had swelling in his brain.
While the driver of the car remains in police custody, family members expressed their appreciation that he assisted by taking Khan to the hospital and noted that he was remorseful since the accident occurred.
