The U.S. Embassy yesterday announced that the first Fullbright Scholar here in 20 years will be teaching at the University of Guyana.
In a statement, the embassy said that it was pleased to welcome Jennifer Hoyte to Guyana. Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., Bryan Hunt, met with Hoyte on Wednesday and expressed his appreciation to the Fulbright Program for the reactivation of the scheme in Guyana after a 20-year hiatus. The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program dispatches U.S. scholars and professionals abroad to lecture or conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.
The release said that Hoyte holds a Master of Science in Computer and Information Science from Ohio State University. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics Education at Florida Inter-national University. As part of the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program, the release said that Hoyte will be teaching Philosophy and Issues in the Teaching of Mathematics at the University of Guyana for the first semester of the 2015-2016 academic year. The course, the release added, will focus on how teachers can be more reflective and will cover topics such as Classroom Management, Pedagogy, and Enrichment activities for the secondary school mathematics classrooms.
The Fulbright Program was started in 1946 under legislation introduced by late Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas and is sponsored by the United States Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
