Haiti’s Foreign Minister Lener Renaud and Caricom’s Secretary General Irwin LaRocque have agreed on the necessity for the international community’s greater involvement as it relates to the migration issues experienced by the Haitian community in the Dominican Republic.
According to a press release from the Caricom Secretariat, LaRoque during a visit to Port au Prince met with Renaud at his office as he presented an update on the border issues with its neighbour, Dominican Republic.
LaRoque also informed the Foreign Minister, the community is currently engaging the United Nations “to establish an on the ground monitoring system at the borders to ensure, among other things, that the process of the repatriation does not infringe the human rights of the migrants
