Dear Editor,
My light bill for the month of August has strangely taken on some new colours. What was ‘affordable’ before, has now changed into unaffordable.
There were some difficulties with the GPL organisation a few years ago. The matter was resolved by the Public Utilities Commission and my light bill soon began to show some normalcy when compared to those of similar middle-income families.
Now that we are entering into a newer era, there have begun many changes across the board.
Seems like this new fad has somehow crept into the GPL and GT&T units. When the GPL unit was contacted to query the bill and its 5 times increase in size, the customer service representative was sympathetic and understanding. But when they asked for my name, the entire story became tragic with the other side insisting that my bill was fixed and will remain so.
Why the 500% increase in size? Even my blender went cold over the past few weeks.
Can someone explain the unnecessary taxation that certain people have to experience at the hands of various business organizations?
The old dictum still holds true: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
Yours faithfully,
Deoanand Geer
