Overseas-based Guyanese and sports enthusiast Lloyd Lashley donated a quantity of football equipment and school supplies to Enterprise Primary yesterday at a simple presentation ceremony held at the school’s D’urban Backlands locale.
Lashley who has been living abroad for 32 years in an invited comment said that his intention was to stage an u-13 football tournament but that did not materialise so he decided to donate the supplies to the school.
According to Lashley, many players from Guyana venture to the United States of America to compete in a Caribbean Tournament held in New York which attracts many scouts but none of the players is ever drafted due to their lack of academic ability.
He noted that the focus should be on finding a balance between academics and sport, declaring that it is required if the Guyanese are to be successful in acquiring scholarships to educational institutions.
