President David Granger has said his recent trip to Trinidad and Tobago was for an annual medical check-up.
On Wednesday, Granger confirmed that his visit was for his annual check-up and added that it had nothing to do with the impending elections in Trinidad and Tobago.
He spoke after the presentation of the Burnham Educational Scholarship Trust (BEST) awards on Wednesday.
The media was only alerted to Granger being out of the country and Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo having been sworn in to act as the president at a press conference at the Public Buildings on Monday.
Nagamootoo and Foreign Affairs Minister Carl Greenidge would only say the trip was for private business. Even up to yesterday, State Minister Joseph Harmon, when questioned on the matter during a post-Cabinet briefing, also reiterated that the trip was for private reasons.
