During The Festival of Flowers we were treated to violin music by a young musician during the lunch break, and what a treat that was along with the steel pan and the cathedral organ.
In the grand displays both rare and local plants were featured. The Victoria Amazonica water lily in a rainforest effect, was featured by the Horticultural Society of Guyana. The Hopkinsons put on a grand display of orchids which included arachnis, cattleyas, dendrobiums, epidendrums, vandas and ground orchids in every colour that you can think of. What an amazing collection!
Gardenland Nursery had a magnificent collection of hybrid aglomenas, anthurium lilies, ferns, crotons and orchids in a rainbow of colours. One of the most outstanding anthurium lilies was a potted salmon/red coloured lily with 24 amazing blooms grown by your truly. Another rare anthurium lily with 3 colours like marble ‒ pink, white and green ‒ with several blooms had the crowd making Oohs and Aahs and asking, ‘Is it real?’
So fascinating were the displays that visitors came back both days and did not want to leave when it was closing time. The organisers must be congratulated on a magnificent Festival of Flowers and exhibitors must be encouraged to keep the good work up.
One visitor remarked that this was “one of the most professional and grand displays” that he had seen in Guyana. He is well travelled and has a passion for flowers and plants. Thank you all for your encouragement and support.
Until next week, happy gardening!
