Santos crowned I-Net Communications U13 champs

Santos FC were crowned the inaugural I-Net Communications u-13 champions, downing tourney hosts and home side Fruta Conquerors by a 3-1 score line yesterday at the Tucville Community ground.

Jermin Garrett gave the hosts the early lead on the stroke of the first period compliments of a 20th minute conversion.

Stealing the  ball from the final defender, Garrett upon racing away into the right side of the box, unleashed a powerful right footed attempt which sailed into the top left hand corner.

Nevertheless, the visitors would respond in the 30th minute of the second period as Fabian Abrams netted, thumping his effort into the lower left hand corner from within the centre of the penalty box.

With a winner unable to be found in the remaining minutes of the normal time interval, the fixture would enter the extra time realm to find a winner.

Santos eventually took the lead for the first time in the 49th minute as a lobbed shot from Darren Niles in the centre of the field, bounced over the head of the custodian and into the back of the net.

The win would then be sealed in the 65th minute as Jermain Padmore scored with a penalty kick conversion into the left hand corner of the net, following a reckless challenge within the box by Joshua Edwards.

For the win, Santos received the championship trophy while Fruta Conquerors collected the runners-up trophy. On the individual side, Abrams was adjudged the most valuable player while Bevney Marks of Renaissance received the highest goal scorer award with right conversions.

Collecting the best goalkeeper award was Tyrese Gouveia of Fruta Conquerors. Similarly, Renaissance FC finished in the third position, defeating Western Tigers via walkover in the third place playoff. For their showing, Renaissance collected the third place trophy.
