Showstoppers, West Side Ballers among early winners

Showstoppers, Brothers United, West Side Masters and West Side Ballers were amongst the winners when Tajoe’s Entertainment’s inaugural Stag Beer King of the Turf Knockout Street Football Tourney commenced on Friday.

Staged at the Pouderoyen Tarmac, Showstoppers dismissed Demerara Speedboat by a 2-0 margin in the final match of the night.

Anthony Sancho opened the scoring on the stroke of the half time interval with a 10th minute conversion, bundling the ball over the net following a goal mouth scramble.

Damian Williams then sealed the win in the 17th minute compliments of a left side effort into the centre of the net, after collecting a pass from the right side of the field. In the fourth fixture, Brothers United came from one goal down to defeat Admiral United by a 2-1 score line.

Lexroy Mansfield gave Admiral United the initial lead in the fifth minute compliments of a strike into the centre of the goal from the middle of the field, following a one-on-one situation with the final defender.

Nonetheless, Brothers United leveled the score three minutes later as Kevin Marshall scored, placing his first time effort from the left side of the field into the back of the net.

Adami Hoyte would then complete the come-from-behind win in the 16th minute, slotting home into the centre of the goal after collecting a right sided pass. On the other hand, West Side Ballers downed Team Xtra 1-0.

Morgan settled the outcome in the favour of Ballers, finishing his right footed effort into the centre of the net, after collecting a pass from the left side of the field from Dwayne St. Kitts following a two-on-one situation with the final defender. The seventh fixture witnessed West Side Masters upsetting Jetty Gunners 1-0. Kellon Cummings was the difference on the night in the 16th minute, stabbing his effort into the centre of the net, from the middle of the field following a three-on-one situation with the final defender.

In other results, Riddim Flow Renegades defeated Pouderoyen u-20 unit by a 2-0 margin in the opening fixture while Samaroo Dam and Parfaite Harmonie defeated Beavers and Team Ansa McAl via walkovers respectively.

Also clinching a win was Patentia Street Ballers who edged Majie Street by a 2-1 score line on sudden death kicks after the normal and extra time intervals finished score less.

Winner of the tourney will walk away with $200,000 and championship trophy while the second and third place finishers will pocket $125,000 and $75,000 respectively.
