The body of a sixty-seven-year old electrician was discovered in a desolate area of the abandoned train line between Silvertown and Half Mile, Wismar, around 15.30 hrs yesterday.
It is speculated that Roy Richmond, who lives alone at Half Mile, Wismar, was either tripped by wild vines or collapsed while taking water from a spring not far from his home. Richmond, a diabetic, who also suffered from hypertension, was found with his face in the sand and his body in a contorted position. A covered white five-gallon bucket and a transparent one-gallon plastic bottle both containing water, were close to his body.
Curious onlookers from the area in which he lived converged on the location where Richmond’s lifeless body lay in the white hillside sand and thick grass under the surveillance of two gun totting uniformed policemen and a plain clothes officer beneath a gloomy overcast sky for over three hours.
Richmond, a popular electrician was well known and liked in the Silvertown, Canvas City, Half Mile Area. He was a knowledgeable cricket fan and an ardent, longstanding supporter of the West Indies cricket team, who although soft spoken, relished an argument on cricket statistics and the history of the game. He was also a domino player, who will be missed by the patrons of popular bars of his neighbourhood, particularly, Jean’s and Peggy’s.
