For a second day in succession, the search for a female tourist who went missing at Kaieteur National Park (KNP) on Tuesday was fruitless.
The search was expanded yesterday but there was still no sign of her. Her identity has not been revealed by the tour operator Air Services Limited (ASL) .
The Department of Natural Resources said in a statement yesterday that the Guyana Defence Force and Police Force joined the National Parks Commis-sion Rangers in the search. The release stated that all the trails in the park were searched, and binoculars were used to check the area below the falls and alongside the gorge. However, there was no sign of the tourist. The search ended at 6 pm yesterday and will continue today with additional forces.
The release said that the matter was still being treated as a missing person case and the search will be intensified. Tours to KNP remain suspended.
ASL Manager Annette Arjoon-Martins said that the matter was in the hands of the Department of Natural Resources and was not willing to say anything until all of the details were compiled.
Speaking to Stabroek News, Minister of Tourism Cathy Hughes said that additional forces were sent to assist with the search which continued until nightfall again.
