Dear Editor,
I had started a kitchen garden at my home (built by Food for the Poor) about two years ago, more or less to help myself (I am a pensioner).
Some persons in the community laughed at me for planting because of my disability (I am blind). I am able to reap produce on a regular basis from my garden which I share with some friends and relatives.
On September 1, 2015 I left home in the morning and returned in the afternoon only to find that someone had entered my yard and picked all the same off my trees. It costs me $4,000 to weed my yard a month; I have to purchase plant food, pesticides, etc. For the past two years I have not had to buy thyme, celery, etc.
A friend one street away from me has complained about the same theft problem. After all the hard work and effort put into my garden it is heartbreaking when persons enter your yard and steal your things, especially from a disabled person.
Yours faithfully,
Laurie Greenidge
