Sophia, Upsetters, Sparta Boss, Raiders and North Ruimveldt were amongst the winners’ circle when the final round of group fixtures in the inaugural RDE Vibes and Sparta Boss ‘King of the Streets’ Football Tourney continued on Monday.
In the third fixture at the Sparta Boss Tarmac in East La Penitence, Sophia embarrassed Back Circle by a 5-0 score line. Desmond Cottam began the rout in the fourth minute with a left sided strike that went through the legs of the final defender and into the net.
Joshua Kamal then doubled their lead one minute later, bundling the ball into the empty net while being challenged from behind, following a counterattack.
The goal-rush continued in the 13th minute as Dwayne Lowe scored, stealing the ball from the final defender before finishing into the centre of the empty goal.
He then sealed his second one minute later under similar circumstances, intercepting the ball before finishing into the right side of the net. The fixture ended as it began with Cottom scoring into the right corner from the centre of the field in the 20th minute.
The second fixture of the night saw dark-horses Upsetters downing Plaisance by a 2-1 margin. Anthony Abrams gave the Georgetown unit the lead in the fifth minute with a right sided strike that sneaked through the legs of the final defender and into the net.
Joshua Britton then made it 2-0 for Upsetters in the seventh minute, turning and smashing his left footed effort into the right side of the net from just outside of the goal.
The East Coast of Demerara unit eventually pulled one back in the 14th minute as Jason Joseph scored, placing his effort into the empty net after intercepting a stray pass in the centre of the playing area.
In the final fixture of the night, Sparta Boss edged Cross Street by a 1-0 score line. Carl Tudor separated the two sides in the very first minute of the fixture, striking the ball with the outside of his right foot from the left flank into the lower right hand corner of the net.
Similarly, North Ruimveldt downed Island All-Stars 1-0 in the sixth showdown of the evening. Joshua Browne sealed the hard-fought contest in the 17th minute with a powerful right footed shot into the lower right hand corner.
In the fifth fixture, West Demerara unit Raiders downed Bent Street 1-0. Jermin Beckles was the difference between the two sides on the night, scoring in the fourth minute with a finish into the right hand corner, after pouncing on a loose ball just outside the goal area.
In other results, Patentia Street Ballers defeated Brothers United 1-0 on sudden death kicks after normal time ended score less while West Back Road defeated East Ruimveldt via a walkover.
Winner of the tournament will walk away with $400,000 and the championship trophy while the second, third and fourth place sides will receive $150,000, $80,000 and $20,000 correspondingly.
