Courts presents $1.5m for elite league

The inaugural Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Stag Beer Elite League has begun to gather momentum ahead of its official launch tomorrow as corporate entity Courts Guyana Incorporated donated $1,500,000 towards the sponsoring of the event.

The inaugural tourney which is expected to commence on September 18th, will consist of eight teams from several associations across the country. The tourney is expected to last eight months.

The competing clubs are Alpha United, Bakewell Slingerz, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Pele FC, Georgetown Football Club (GFC), Monedderlust FC, Buxton United and Fruta Conquerors.

Chairman of the GFF Normalization Committee Clinton Urling said that the federation is thankful for the company’s contribution, declaring that it is money well spent from their perspective which will go a long way towards ensuring that the league is a sustainable event.

He further said that it is a good strategic partnership for the federation while thanking the company once more for coming on board with the GFF.

Marketing Manager of Courts, Pernell Cummings said that the company is happy to be a sponsor of the league, declaring that the entity has always been associated with sports and in particular football which is evident by its longstanding Pee-Wee Football tourney.

He further said the hope is for the league to pay dividends by assisting in helping the Golden Jaguars reach the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, noting that the event will assist to further build the brand of the company and the sport.

Cummings further urged the fans to come out in support of the tournament and their teams as “we aim to make football big in Guyana”.
