Dear Editor,
Criminals are always coming up with ingenious ways to scam people of their money, and over the years, the ATM machines have attracted their attention with different methods. Some have been successful and some have not, but they still persist. Over the years many customers using the ATM’s at various locations would mention the absence of security guards or bank employees at certain times to give assistance if required.
Recently whilst travelling in a minibus, two young women were conversing in a loud tone so that almost the whole bus could hear, and one began telling of an incident that occurred when she was using the ATM machine at central Georgetown bank one night. According to her, whilst using the ATM another customer using the other ATM come over to her and said that he was experiencing problems with the machine, and asked her to use her card in it to see if it was working. Immediately her sixth sense kicked in and she look around for the security guard, but was disappointed because none could be seen. She then hastily made an excuse and exited the bank. Many thoughts ran through the young woman’s head, but she didn’t assist, and like her others have had similar experiences.
Editor, at no time should a customer have to offer assistance at an bank because the banks are already being paid, and should ensure that someone is always around to offer assistance so as to avoid unsuspecting customers becoming victims. It’s time our local banks offered better service. Presently I cannot locate a bank that has a washroom for customers in case of emergencies.
Yours faithfully,
