Colts romp to victory over Bulls in Burnham Memorial b/ball c/ships

Georgetown unit Colts continued their recent championship winning ways, downing Linden unit Half Mile Bulls 63-59 to clinch the GABF Forbes Burnham Memorial Championship on Saturday at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Hard-Court in Linden.

Shelroy Thomas top scored with 29 points and pulled in four rebounds while Dave Causway chipped in with 14 points. He also pulled down four rebounds while Nicko Fraser’s contribution was eight points and three rebounds.

For Bulls, Travin Dryden recorded a double-double of 16, points, 12 rebounds and eight assists while Terron Welch registered a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Chipping in with 10 and eight points were Michael Turner and Kevin Easton respectively.

Due to the win, Colts will pocket $100,000, medals and the championship trophy while Bulls will receive the respective medals and accolade along with $60,000.

The opening period saw Bulls seizing the initial control of the game as they outscored Colts by s 21-10 margin.

However, the momentum changed in the second period as the Georgetown unit recorded a mammoth 27 points while reducing their adversaries to only 10 points to take a 37-31 lead into the half time break.

The Georgetown unit then built on their advantage in the pivotal third period, netting 17 points to Bull’s meagre nine points to go into the final period ahead 54-40.

With a 14 point lead at their disposal, Colts survived a final quarter surge from Bulls as they were outscored 19-9 to hold on for the win.

Fellow Georgetown unit Pacesetters downed Linden unit Victory Valley Royals to clinch the third position in the tournament. Pacesetters for their effort, will receive $40,000 and the respective trophy.

On the individual side, accolades will be awarded for the Most Valuable Player, Best Uniformed Team and Most Disciplined Team.
