Although wanted for murder, a suspect yesterday decided to attend a previously scheduled court hearing, leading to his arrest.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum told Stabroek News that detectives were aware that the man, who was being sought after the murder of Kellon Hinds, had a court hearing and after the hearing was completed he was promptly arrested.
Up to press time last evening, he was in police custody being questioned.
Hinds, 22, called ‘Baje,’ of East Ruimveldt Squatting Area, Georgetown, was fatally shot by three men in his family’s yard in the East Ruimveldt community last Tuesday.
It is alleged that the suspect and two others committed the brutal act. Hinds is said to be the victim of a revenge killing, which was sparked by the gunning down of Sherwyne Barrow three months ago. The suspect and Barrow are closely related.
Hinds, according to members of his family, had been held by police as a suspect in Barrow’s murder and was shot dead just five hours after being released from police custody.
Stabroek News was told that the young man after recently returning home from Barbados was detained by police as part of the Barrow investigation. A relative explained that Hinds was released around 5.15 pm on $40,000 bail and by 9 pm he was dead.
