Shot Cummings Lodge Secondary School guard Michael Woolford has lost his left eye and is still scheduled to undergo surgery to remove a bullet lodged in his head.
Woolford, 68, of Melanie Damishana, was shot on Wednesday while on duty at the school after shots were fired nearby at two men engaged in an altercation.
Claudia Woolford, the daughter of the injured man, said although his eye was removed, doctors were skeptical about removing the lodged bullet. She added that her father may undergo surgery today to remove the bullet.
Although he is not speaking, Woolford has responded to relatives when they say his name. He is still admitted in the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
A police statement on the shooting said investigations have revealed that two men, one of whom was armed with a cutlass, were involved in an altercation at Industry Crown Dam, East Coast Demerara around 9pm and a driver subsequently stopped, exited his vehicle and discharged several rounds in their direction. The driver then escaped.
A round is believed to have struck Woolford, who was on duty at the school.
The two men involved in the altercation, Vincent Williams, 35, and Doodnauth, 53, both of Industry Crown Dam, were also treated at the GPH.
