Mdala Richmond, 20, who was allegedly found trying to board a plane to Barbados with a laptop bag filled with cannabis, is now a remanded prisoner.
Richmond, of Lot 505 East Ruimveldt, appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Ally yesterday at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, where she pleaded not guilty to a possession of narcotics for trafficking charge.
Richmond is accused of being found with four kilogrammes of marijuana on Thursday at the Ogle International Airport.
According to the police’s case against Richmond, she was at the Ogle airport to board a flight to Barbados when she was noticed acting suspiciously by a Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) officer. A search was subsequently carried out on her and her bags and the rank found eight packets of marijuana in her laptop bag.
The prosecution objected to bail given the quantity of the find and as a result Richmond was remanded to prison until October 14th, when the next hearing is scheduled.
