The Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) in collaboration with the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) brought the curtains down on their “Young Players Development” course on Wednesday at the National Gymnasium.
The five-day course which spiked off last week, was facilitated by veteran coach Julio Morales from the Lamar University Beaumont, Texas who sought to make the fundamentals of volleyball an integral part of the clinic.
Attended mostly by a few students from some of the country’s most prominent educational institutes including Bishops’ High and St. Rose’s Secondary, Morales instilled the importance of rules, long-term benefits of the sport and possible careers as a few of the pivotal areas.
Representative of the National Sports Commission (NSC) Gervy Harry, on behalf of the Government of Guyana, thanked the former volleyball player turned coach for his time spent helping the expansion development of the sport in Guyana.
Gervy lauded the students for their participation and their progress during the five days and hinted at future plans for the sport by the government.
With the course now completed the students are better equipped with the tools required for advancing into the realm of volleyball, if they so choose to, he said. Morales described the event as a great success and thanked the students who came into the programme practically oblivious to the nature of the sport for their participation.
This clinic marked another of the GVF’s ongoing plan to make the sport an integral part of the Guyanese sporting fraternity.
