Rugby action returns to the National Park today with two pre-season 10-a-side friendly matches.
Following a short break locally due to international duties and recovery time, the male and female ruggers will get back into the competitive mix starting today at 16:00hrs.
The first match will see female players from the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and Pepsi Hornets (Team Kiskadee) tackling a team of mixed players from Yamaha Caribs and Police (Bluesakies).
The coaches are Elwin Chase and Laurence Adonis with Carlton Heywood as the referee and Clifton Garrett as his replacement.
Half hour later, a men’s match will be played involving ruggers from GDF/Caribs and Police and the UG Wolves and Pepsi Hornets teams.
The coaches will be Kenneth Grant-Stuart and Clinton Clarke with former national rugby captain Conrad Arjoon as the referee.
Alwin Etwah is his replacement.
The supporting officials are John Lewis, Philip Browne and Abiola Blair.
Meanwhile upcoming events of the GRFU season include the Banks 7s, a schools’ tournament and also the long-awaited election of the union.
